My Story…

I’m Samantha! Most people I know call me Sam, which is interesting because no one called me that until I went to University. Probably because my dad’s name is Sam - so before then, it would be confusing. People often ask what I like being called, and after much reflection, my answer is BOTH! I love hearing Samantha, and I like the familiar feel that Sam has become.

After living cross-culturally in South Africa for about a decade, ministering among Univesity students, I have made Atlanta, GA, my new home. I’m a recent seminary graduate and continue to serve in college ministry doing women’s leadership development on our international teams.

So a bit of my story…

Home for me will always be Gary, Indiana. It’s where I was born, and no matter where I live, it will always hold a special place in my heart. That place shaped me in many ways.

Though my family was not religious, my mom often blared Gospel music through the house on Sunday mornings. “As Long As I Got King Jesus” by Vickie Winans will forever be a favorite.  I believed God existed but did not know it was possible to know him personally. The word “Christian” was not in my vocabulary.

It still blows my mind that God had someone sit next to me on the first day of class who became such a dear friend, sharing with me about the most important person in her life, Jesus. That was the beginning of a turning point in my life. His work in my heart led me to surrender my life to Him. He turned my feet in another direction in His lovingkindness, changing my life in ways I never thought possible. The more I got to know God, the more I loved Him.

Our experiences shape us and give us a unique way of seeing life. That’s what you will find here on this site as I share more of my story, experiences, and pondering of the ordinary things of life. I want the way I live my life to be a reflection of not only Christ, but as one who in her imperfections, wrestles to live out my faith day by day in this world.
